On 10 May 2010, the tenth day of the opening of Expo 2010 Shanghai, "Overseas Chinese Return Home to See Expo" activities, jointly organized by Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of The State Council and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Shanghai Municipal Government, was inaugurated at the southern square of China Pavilion of Expo 2010 Shanghai at 8 am, marking the first program held at the main entrance of the China Pavilion.
2010 overseas Chinese, including leaders of overseas Chinese organizations, Chinese entrepreneurs, specialists from the fields of technology and culture and overseas Chinese youth, were invited to the program. Mr. Hui Wing Mau, J.P., Chairman of Shimao Group, and Mr. Dhanin Chearavanont, Chairman of CP Group, are also invited to the activity as overseas Chinese.
Mr. Li Haifeng, Director of Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of The State Council, said that, with great affection for their homeland, the overseas Chinese have made enormous contributions to the application for and organization of the Expo 2010 Shanghai. The aims of inviting overseas Chinese to the Expo are to commend for their remarkable contributions to the China’s economic and social development and the Expo, and satisfy their strong wish to visit the Expo and share opportunities among overseas Chinese.
Mr. Hui Wing Mau, J.P., Chairman of Shimao Group, knitted an indissoluble bond with Expo 2010 Shanghai. Early in 2002 when Shanghai applied for the organization of the World’s Expo, Mr. Hui participated in a great deal of work in relation to the application individually. Through his own influence, he has gained the widespread support from the Philippines, Indonesia, The Republic of Nauru, The Republic of Palau, Dominica and The Republic of Costa Rica to China. He also combined the efforts from Chinese and overseas Chinese merchants in Hong Kong, Shanghai and other places in support of the application for the Expo 2010 Shanghai.
